Event Trends, September 2007

The 2007 ISES EventWorld Conference in Montreal and the Event Solutions Idea Factory Expo/Catersource Conference in Miami provided me with a lot of insight on the newest trends in event.  Here are my TOP 10:

1.  Water, Lasers & Intelligent Lighting are big. Water curtains, choreographed water shows, laser shows, and living fountains were a recurring theme at the Idea Factory parties and on the trade show floor.

2.  Floating Buffets serving everything from drinks to desserts are chic. Suspended from above, these platforms are definitely not what your guests are expecting.

3.  Everything is acrylic. From tables and chairs to bars and end tables, plexiglass is popular for all kinds of events.

4.  Small plates are still popular for passing little bites, but different shapes are coming out to add interest.

5.  Interactive “eye candy” is hot. Whether they are passing hors d’oeuvres or posing with guests for photos, live models to fit the theme are a great touch.

Hot Trends  (from left) The Sirens served as living fountains that came to life to mesmerize the audience; Acrylic tables offer a contemporary look in a variety of colors; Floating buffets were suspended overhead amidst crystal strands; A "candy bar" makes a great grab-and-go favor station; Mini versions of everyday favorites are all the rage.

   6.  Speaking of candy…Candy Bars are still popular. Glass containers filled with treats allow guests to make

their own doggie bags for the ride home.

7 and 8.  Furniture and Fabric are popping up at every event. Comfy lounge furniture, end tables, and

coffee tables create conversation areas and dramatic fabric draping softens the look.

   9.  Ice is still hot. Ice carvers are finding new ways to display sculptures including suspending them from the ceiling.

   10.  Fun party favors never go out of style. Wax lips at the Liquid, Lights & Lipstick party in Miami made for great photo ops.
